12 yr old Expelled for Being Prepared

Montgomery Alabama 12 yr old expelled for bringing a multi-purpose tool to school (Johnny can't read...now, he can't whittle either!). Even more frightening, earlier in the year, the same school had a student disciplined for bringing a deadly...hold on to your hat...PECAN CRACKER to school. Oh, the humanity!

Government officials are still investigating whether the pecan cracker was a high-capacity assault version.

Bringing a knife to school is serious. Really. Expulsion? Maybe too harsh. But still serious. Really.

Remember, you told me knives were BAD! ;)
 
Wow, you have a good memory! Yes, bringing a knife to school is inappropriate. But, has much of this has gone off the deep-end.

My opinion is that we can all blame the parents and the litigious society we live in.

Teachers today...you might attest to this...are not empowered to suffiently perform their duties. Fear and apprehension seem to be the rule of the day within our institutions.
 
Well, we are all scared to death that some unhinged kid will bring a gun to school. So sometimes, we over-react maybe.

I live 20 minutes away from the district where the latest case of this was stopped last week before it could happen. And, my school had a drug arrest three weeks ago: an 8th grader selling dope to another 8th grader, on campus.

So, we do have to be a little over-the-top about kids and weapons - of any kind - and kids and drugs. The whole "student suspended for bringing Tylenol to school" thing happens for a reason: kids use OTC medicine containers to smuggle in controlled substances. Two years ago, a female 7th grader in our building used Gatorade bottles to smuggle vodka into our school.

The girl's mom let her middle schooler drink at home, so...
